The VP Chief Medical Officer II is accountable to ensure that the highest quality of medical care is provided to our patients. As a key member of the senior leadership team, provides oversight and ensures productive relationships with the medical staff, assures clinical excellence, assists in leadership planning and execution of the hospital's strategic plan, maintains accreditation/regulatory compliance, and promotes a high reliability organization. A Brief Overview
The VP Chief Medical Officer II is accountable to ensure that the highest quality of medical care is provided to our patients. As a key member of the senior leadership team, provides oversight and ensures productive relationships with the medical staff, assures clinical excellence, assists in leadership planning and execution of the hospital's strategic plan, maintains accreditation/regulatory compliance, and promotes a high reliability organization. What you will do
  • Provides leadership in planning and executing the hospital’s strategic plan. Develops and implements strategic goals related to quality improvement, high reliability, patient safety, and accreditation standards.
  • Translates strategy into action plans, and forms close working relationships with clinical and operations leaders and the hospital’s medical staff.
  • Establishes systems of accountability for medical providers to include productivity benchmarks, performance measures, performance evaluations, and controls for clinical quality assurance. Champions and models high reliability for all levels of clinicians.
  • Advocates for the use of EMR and/or other clinical information systems, encourages benchmarking, sharing of best practices, and collaboration among all clinicians. Builds momentum and excitement around physician engagement.
  • Serves as a champion and consultative resource for the highest levels of patient safety, quality of care and evidence based medical standards of practice, high reliability, and service excellence.
  • Works closely with other leaders to advance clinical integration, improve clinical outcomes, and promote standardization of practice and system-ness.
  • Provides leadership in establishing and implementing clinical guidelines, policies, and standardization of care delivery.
  • Participates on the system’s Quality Management Oversight committee, UR committee, and Credentials Committee.
  • Provides leadership to Case Management and Mid-Level Providers with strong involvement in utilization review, revenue cycle review, discharge planning, and optimization of patient care.
  • Participates in the recruitment of qualified clinical staff including interviewing and recommendation for hire. Monitors and assists in the new hire orientation process to ensure consistency in training among the medical providers.
  • Assesses all matters of clinical compliance and provides timely recommendations for corrective action and improvement efforts.

Education/Formal Training Requirements
  • Master's Degree Business Administration/Management
  • MD/DO

Work Experience Requirements
  • 5-7 years Lead, Supervisory, or Management
  • 10+ years Professional practice of medicine

Licenses and Certifications Requirements
  • National Board Certified Physician - The National Board of Physicians and Surgeons

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and protocols in acute health care, physician and mid-level provider regulations, and health care provider licensing and operations.
  • Knowledge of current healthcare trends in quality, safety, information technology, healthcare reform, regulatory compliance, finance, and high reliability.
  • Exhibits a passion for health care and holds values as evidenced by integrity, sensitivity, respect, collaboration, willingness to share and teach others, and a commitment to excellence in all endeavors.
  • Excellent listening skills with an effective written and oral communication system; a facilitator and promoter of dialogue.
  • Demonstrates excellent skills analyzing and using data and metrics in formulating goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates ability to utilize computer technology and adapt to evolving technology requirements in health care.

Supervision Provided by this Position
  • Directly or indirectly manages leaders and associates in Case Management, Quality/PI, and Mid-Level Providers.
  • Provides oversight of hospital’s medical directors.
  • Overall direction and guidance to the clinical providers in the practice of evidence based, safe quality care.

Physical Demands
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
