A Brief Overview
The OR Coordinator performs all routine clerical tasks and schedules all exams/procedures for inpatient and outpatient surgical cases. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
- As initial patient liaison, coordinates all patient care procedures via telephone communications and direct patient contact for inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures.
- Reviews, retrieves, enters and maintains patient care information.
- Performs general clerical duties for the department.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures related to the area of responsibility.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience Requirements
- 1-3 years Healthcare environment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of general business operations and scheduling.
- Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials such as reports for 1st case start times, room turnovers, etc.
- Knowledge of basic computer operations acquired either through work experience or education, required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate and work in collaborative manner with surgeons, anesthesia personnel and support departments.
- Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of own and others' work flow.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- Must maintain confidentiality of personal and sensitive data.
- Skilled in attention to detail.
- Ability to think through routine to moderately complex situations.
- Understands DNV regulations and promotes compliance with all requirements.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- There are no lead or supervisory responsibilities assigned to this position.
Physical Demands
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
