The Trauma Registrar I is responsible for maintaining all aspects of the Le Bonheur Children's Trauma Data Base Registry. Coordinates and performs the data input, report writing, and analysis of the data. Prepares statistical reports. Coordinates database interfaces. Abstracts data from appropriate sources. Participates in research projects. Participates in regional trauma registry user groups. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

A Brief Overview
The Trauma Registrar I is responsible for maintaining all aspects of the Le Bonheur Children's Trauma Data Base Registry. Coordinates and performs the data input, report writing, and analysis of the data. Prepares statistical reports. Coordinates database interfaces. Abstracts data from appropriate sources. Participates in research projects. Participates in regional trauma registry user groups. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do

  • Collects data for inclusion within a specific database in support of organizational quality and safety initiatives.
  • Analyzes, aggregates, and reports data for communicating performance metrics.
  • Manages and maintains assigned clinical database. Serves as primary liaison with third-party vendors, database end users, and clinical decision support department.
  • Maintains proven coding skills as evidenced by periodic coding quality and productivity reviews.
  • Must obtain 24 hours or trauma-related CE during the trauma reverification cycle.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or needed.


Education Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree Nursing- RN,
  • Technical Degree or Diploma Emerg Medical Tech (EMT) or
  • Technical Degree or Diploma Paramedic
  • Participate in the following courses below within 12 months of date of hire:

-Post-Graduate Certificate or Diploma American Trauma Society Trauma Registry Course

-Post-Graduate Certificate or Diploma ICD-10 Coding Course

-Post-Graduate Certificate or Diploma Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) 2015

Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years Clinical healthcare (acute or hospital) required
  • Database and/or coding preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of trauma registry database and application.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, injuries, coding of injuries and medical history, laboratory values and medical complications.
  • Knowledge of medical coding.
  • Proven skills in interpersonal relationships, planning, organizing, and follow-up.
  • Proven skills in developing positive customer relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide highly detailed, accurate work.
  • Demonstrated ability to set and manage priorities, be a team member, relate to all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated written, verbal and presentation skills.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry - American Trauma Society within 24 months of date of hire.

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • There are no supervisory responsibilities assigned to this job.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
