A Brief Overview
Manages accounts and analyzes coverage for all areas associated with the Transplant Unit to ensure that maximum reimbursement is received from third party payers and self-pay accounts. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do
  • Meets and consults with patients to determine insurance coverage and to explain costs of the transplant program. Assists patient in securing financial resources.
  • Verifies patient’s insurance coverage and benefits.
  • Coordinates with others in department regarding coverage.
  • Acts as liaison with Social Services to work out housing, payment, and other financial issues.
  • Works with insurance companies to arrange for insurance coverage. Obtains insurance authorization and best benefit within managed care guidelines.
  • Maintains records of insurance and financial contracts within the Meditech System.
  • Provides information on number of evaluations and listings.

Education/Formal Training Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree Accounting
  • Bachelor's Degree Finance

Work Experience Requirements
  • 3-5 years Progressive insurance

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of patient accounting, credit, insurance procedures, and coverage.
  • Proficient in systems software applications, to include Excel, Word, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all levels of Associates and management, possibly in an adversarial setting.
  • Must have the ability to learn the fundamental concepts of the practices and procedures associated with transplants.
  • Ability to set priorities coordinates multiple tasks, organize tasks, and maintain control of workflow.

Supervision Provided by this Position
  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
