The Clinical Director is accountable for the 24-hour operations of the assigned departments and/or units. Responsible for clinical care delivery, for leadership of Associates, for fiscal stewardship of the department's/unit(s)' resources, and for the creation of a positive clinical and Associate work environment. Contributes to the organization's and the system's success in clinical outcomes, service to all customers (patients, families, physicians, and Associates), and to a positive financial state. A Brief Overview
The Clinical Director provides strategic and operational leadership for assigned departments and/or units, ensuring excellence in 24/7 clinical care delivery. This role is responsible for guiding and developing Associates, optimizing resource utilization, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment. The Clinical Director plays a key role in advancing the organization's goals related to patient outcomes, service excellence, and financial performance. Through visionary leadership and a commitment to the MLH Mission, Vision, and Values, the Clinical Director serves as a role model for professional integrity, compassionate care, and continuous improvement.

What you will do

  • Clinical Operations Leadership
  • Provides 24/7 accountability for assigned service areas, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Leads initiatives to enhance patient safety, clinical outcomes, and service excellence.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement performance improvement strategies based on clinical and satisfaction metrics.
  • Associate & Team Management
  • Recruits, mentors, and evaluates nursing staff and Patient Care Coordinators (PCCs), fostering a culture of excellence and continuous development.
  • Coaches PCCs in effective leadership and team management to optimize care delivery.
  • Drives associate engagement and retention through positive work environments and recognition of performance.
  • Oversees staffing models, scheduling, and resource allocation to ensure efficient and effective workforce utilization.
  • Fiscal Stewardship
  • Participates in annual budget planning and ensures alignment with organizational goals.
  • Monitors financial performance, analyzes variances, and implements corrective actions to meet fiscal targets.
  • Utilizes data from financial and clinical systems to inform strategic growth and service development.
  • Environmental & Business Operations
  • Maintains regulatory and accreditation readiness across all service areas.
  • Proactively identifies and addresses environmental and equipment needs to support safe, efficient patient care.
  • Leads implementation of new technologies and operational projects to enhance care delivery and efficiency.
  • Professional Practice Leadership
  • Serves as a role model for nursing professionalism, ethics, and clinical excellence.
  • Pursues advanced certifications and participates in professional organizations at local and regional levels.
  • Champions evidence-based practice and fosters a culture of lifelong learning and professional growth.


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing- RN
  • Master's Degree Nursing- RN

Experience Qualifications

  • 3-5 years Acute care environment Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in acute care hospital setting or comparable specialty area

Skills and Abilities

  • Strategic Leadership Competencies: Demonstrates advanced leadership capabilities including strategic thinking, change management, and team empowerment.
  • Operational Agility: Skilled in managing multiple priorities simultaneously, organizing complex workflows, and maintaining operational control in dynamic clinical environments.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Proficient in interpreting clinical and operational data, analyzing trends, drawing actionable insights, and developing evidence-based improvement plans.
  • Technology Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with healthcare information systems and analytics platforms.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Nursing
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
  • Preferred: Nursing Administration board certification or National certification in the clinical specialty.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
