A Brief Overview
The Perioperative Services Coordinator reviews patient records, clinical documentation, data, charges and other required documentation for the OR, GI Lab, Recovery Room, and Anesthesia. The coordinator generates and reconciles appropriate charges for all noted departments accurately and completely based on CMS guidelines. Ensures that charges are accurately posted to patient accounts and data is compiled in a timely manner and in accordance with governmental and regulatory standards. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
- Conducts analysis to ensure all Perioperative Services Department patients and supplies are charged appropriately. Ensures timely and accurate completion and submission of appropriate charges within specified guidelines.
- Verifies and reconciles interfaced charges, researches omitted or unfinalized charges to ensure all supplies or times are properly interfaced without error or omission into the Cerner and PFS platforms.
- Brings identified concerns to supervisor for resolution.
- Maintains proven charging skills as evidenced by periodic quality and productivity reviews.
- Utilizes multiple software applications such as Cerner, SAP, Mainframe, CCI, PFS, Bridge, Discern Analytics, Syus, InVita (Champion) and others to accumulate and analyze data.
- Maintains care, control and confidentiality of hospital medical records. Understands, applies and supports departmental/hospital policies, procedures and standards.
- Performs other job functions as needed or requested.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience Requirements
- 3-5 years Clinical documentation and charging experience in Perioperative Services setting
- 5-7 years Data entry and/or data processing
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Perioperative Services Department record documentation and regulatory requirements, policies and procedures.
- Ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers including but not limited to nurses, sales representative, vendors, supervisors, managers, physicians, and other departments/areas.
- Ability to work well in a multitasking environment paying close attention to details.
- Ability to work effectively and productively without close supervision and to exercise sound independent judgment in decision making.
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral, to all levels within the organization.
- Knowledge of supply chain terminology, medical terminology, CPT coding guidelines, DNV standards and CMS guidelines.
- Proficient in Windows-based applications, particularly Excel and Word.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment (i.e. fax machine, copy machine, scan, etc.)
- Ability to analyze and interpret data to assist in decision making.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this job.
Physical Demands
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
