Under the supervision of a Licensed Perfusionist, the perfusionist trainee will be responsible for providing perfusion services defined as those functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of the patient. Selects the appropriate equipment and techniques to be used. Acknowledges the necessity to participate in ongoing professional and educational development due to evolving technology. A Brief Overview
Under the supervision of a Licensed Perfusionist, the perfusionist trainee will be responsible for providing perfusion services defined as those functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of the patient. Selects the appropriate equipment and techniques to be used. Acknowledges the necessity to participate in ongoing professional and educational development due to evolving technology. What you will do

  • Under the supervision of a license Perfusionist, the trainee will be responsible for providing perfusion services as indicated per defined standards and protocols.
  • Ensures appropriate function of all equipment through routine cleaning and maintenance.
  • Facilitates the delivery of high-quality patient care through diligent evaluation of current processes and opportunities for improvement.
  • Demonstrates personal development by utilizing available resources to maintain the accepted standard of care.
  • Performs non-clinical / office duties.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.


Education Qualifications

  • Technical Degree or Diploma Cardiovascular Perfusion

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to operate related perfusion equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others, including medical and nursing staff, patients and families.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment in a professional area.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of own and others’ work flow.

Licenses and Certifications

  • TN - Perfusionist - unknown Current provisional licensure in the State.
  • Cardiovascular Perfusionists (ABCP) - American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion Within one year date of hire. American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
  • Cardiopulmonary (CPR) certification required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association American Heart Association

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities for this position.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
