A Brief Overview
Responsible for cleaning operating rooms, transporting patients to and from Operating Room Services and transporting needed items to and from various departments in the hospital. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in The Methodist Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
- Cleans and maintains operating rooms before and after surgical procedures. Maintains cleaning solutions and cleaning equipment.
- Transports pediatric, adolescent, adult & geriatric patients, both inpatients & outpatients, to and from surgical suites, Pre-op Holding, EPOH and CVICU areas.
- Transports requested items, such as blood, x-rays, pharmacy items, SPD items, charts, records and equipment between departments and surgical units; transports requested supplies in a timely, accurate manner.
- Participates in CIP, Quality Improvement and evaluation activities and implements measures to ensure that hospital, JCAHO and other quality standards are met.
- Maintains principles of aseptic technique according to hospital policy and procedure and AORN standards. Maintains and stores equipment in a clean/safe condition. Stocks and maintains the proper par levels of various supplies such as blankets, brushes, etc., in the assigned surgical unit.
- Recognizes and responds appropriately to environmental safety factors.
- Performs other job functions.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience Requirements
- Neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient/customers
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
- HEART SAVER - American Heart Association
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to comprehend verbal instructions given in English.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and effectively communicate in English with minimal mental application performing repetitive tasks and duties.
- Excellent customer services skills required.
- Ability to organize and complete tasks.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.
Physical Demands
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: heavy work - exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity
- The Associate may be required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.).
