Under the direction of the Network Manager, this position is responsible and accountable for the planning, design, implementation, analysis, troubleshooting, testing, documenting, training, maintenance, monitoring, support and inventory of Methodist's networks, associated equipment, software, utilities and applications on 7/24 basis. Takes a lead role in network related projects and participates in multi-disciplinary teams. Maintains expert technical knowledge of assigned technologies, including researching and recommending solutions. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

A Brief Overview
Under the direction of the Network Manager, this position is responsible and accountable for the planning, design, implementation, analysis, troubleshooting, testing, documenting, training, maintenance, monitoring, support and inventory of Methodist's networks, associated equipment, software, utilities and applications on 7/24 basis. Takes a lead role in network related projects and participates in multi-disciplinary teams. Maintains expert technical knowledge of assigned technologies, including researching and recommending solutions. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do
  • Collaborate, support, and lead other team members to identify and develop scalable network designs, solutions and policy recommendations to support a growing network infrastructure Design, develop, implement, and support network solutions for IT projects.
  • Configure and install various network devices and services (e.g., routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, QoS).
  • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Monitor system resource utilization, trending, and capacity planning.
  • Triage and resolve issues by working collaboratively with team members, business partners and service providers.
  • Utilize methods to perform analysis of production problems & troubleshoot escalated support issues.

Education/Formal Training Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate's Degree Information Technology
  • Bachelor's Degree Computer sciences
  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering
  • Bachelor's Degree Information Technology

Work Experience Requirements
  • 3-5 years Information Technology

Licenses and Certifications Requirements
  • CCDA-Cisco Certified Design Associate Issuer -TBD
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional - Cisco

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Basic understanding of networking architecture and technologies (i.e.: Trunking, VLANs, STP, Multicast, PPP, Frame/Relay, ATM, MPLS, Metro-E, OSPF, BGP, VRF, QoS, ACLs, Route redistribution, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, IPSEC, SNMP, Syslog, HTTP(S), SSH, DHCP, DNS, RDP, LDAP, ICMP, SMTP protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with F5 appliances.
  • Proven proficiency with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools.
  • VoIP and VOIP knowledge a plus.

Supervision Provided by this Position
  • There are no supervisory responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands
  • Subject to call back at all times.
  • Must be able to effectively use the telephone.
  • Must be able to interpret equipment status indicators to determine appropriate operating condition. Indicators may include visual and/or auditory techniques or cues.
  • Must occasionally use small hand tools and be able to manipulate small equipment components such as computer cables, screws, nuts, or other fastening devices as usually found on computers equipment.
  • Will occasionally experience stressful working conditions due to tight project schedules and hardware or software problems.
  • Must occasionally lift, push, pull and/or carry equipment up to 40 lbs.
  • Must occasionally crouch, kneel, bend and/or crawl to access, inspect, connect, position or perform other operations on equipment.
  • Subject to regular periods of repetitive hand motion in the operation of computers or other equipment.
  • Must provide own transportation and be able to travel to any area of the MLH organization, both local and remote as needed.
