A Brief Overview
The Patient Escort LD provides direct coordination of the daily responsibilities of the transport staff and ensures timely and safe transport of patients between floors and support/ancillary departments. Responsible for transporting patients between hospital locations, including patient rooms, radiology and other ancillary departments as assigned. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in The Methodist Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
- Provides direct coordination of the daily responsibilities of the transport staff and ensures timely, and safe transport of patients between floors and support/ancillary departments.
- Transports inpatients and outpatients safely between hospital departments, using stretcher, wheelchair, bed, and stroke chair as appropriate.
- Utilizes patient safety criteria and correct patient handoff processes.
- Ensures that patient is comfortable during the transporting process.
- Provides assistance to patient, family and health care staff as needed.
- Places equipment not in use in assigned location and ensures equipment is clean and in proper working order.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Associate's Degree
Work Experience Requirements
- 3-5 years Patient escort

Supervision Provided by this Position
- This role functions in a lead capacity.
Physical Demands
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent non-invasive patient contact.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
- Periodic exposure to excessive heat and cold throughout shift; Occasional work to be performed outdoors when discharging patients.
