The LD Pharmacy Tech is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of Pharmacy Technician operational activities through the Pharmacy Department and the hospital in accordance with professional and MLH standards of practice. A Brief Overview
The LD Pharmacy Tech is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of Pharmacy Technician operational activities through the Pharmacy Department and the hospital in accordance with professional and MLH standards of practice. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do

  • Directs and monitors workflow of other technicians in conjunction with Pharmacy Coordinator or Pharmacy Manager. Prepares and coordinates work schedules and staffing and answers questions and resolves issues when needed.
  • Assists in hiring and training of new Associates.
  • Assists Pharmacy Administration in planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling activities and operations for pharmacy services throughout the department and the hospital.
  • Assists Pharmacy Administration in development and implementation of plans to control costs and improve area operations.
  • Assists Pharmacy Administration in leadership, in maintaining productive efficient workflow, and in promoting cooperation among individuals and groups. Provides guidance and leadership to promote teamwork by exhibiting a good work ethic and a positive attitude. Takes a leadership role in absence of Lead Pharmacist or Manager.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.


Education/Formal Training Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate's Degree


Work Experience Requirements

  • 1-3 years Certified Pharmacy Tech
  • Superivisory or Management


Licenses and Certifications Requirements

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician- National Healthcareer Association required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • perform complex pharmaceutical calculations;
  • practice within the established role for pharmacy technicians in organized health care settings;
  • effectively use medical terminology, drug nomenclature, symbols and abbreviations associated with pharmacy practice;
  • explain the operation of the drug distribution system in organized health care settings;
  • explain basic pharmacology and pharmacologic principles;
  • understand aseptic technique.
  • perform complex pharmaceutical calculations;
  • practice within the established role for pharmacy technicians in organized health care settings;
  • use medical terminology, drug nomenclature, symbols and abbreviations associated with pharmacy practice;
  • complete technical functions of the drug distribution system for organized health care settings;
  • apply basic pharmacology and pharmacologic principles;
  • prepare sterile products;
  • complete order entry procedures.


Supervision Provided by this Position

  • Provides day-to-day guidance and assigns work to Pharmacy Techs.


Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
