A Brief Overview
Provides pastoral care and/or counseling to patients, family members, Associates, Medical Staff and visitors associated with Methodist Healthcare – Memphis Hospitals. Provides spiritual care by seeking to understand the relationship between faith, illness, and the feelings and thoughts that motivate healthy and meaningful use of each person's beliefs and attitudes. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
- Provides pastoral care and/or counseling to patients, family members and visitors.
- Provides pastoral care and/or counseling to Associates and Medical Staff.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- Master's Degree Divinity
- Master's Degree Theology
- Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education
Work Experience Requirements
- 1-3 years Hospital Chaplain
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
- Board certified chaplain (BCC)
Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) - Board certified chaplain (BCC)
National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) - Board-Certified Jewish Chaplain National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Functional knowledge of the religious principles of major faiths.
- Ability to work effectively with persons of diverse religious, cultural, and racial backgrounds.
- Skill and proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles and professional techniques in the field of chaplaincy.
- Ability to listen, understand, and minister to the specific spiritual needs of persons in crisis.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.
Physical Demands
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
