The Formula Tech is responsible for preparing and delivering all infant formula. The incumbent adheres to all sanitary regulations and standards established by LBCMC and regulatory agencies. Responsible for safe and effective operation of equipment needed to prepare infant formula and maintain sanitation in the preparation room. A Brief Overview
The Formula Tech is responsible for preparing and delivering all infant formula. The incumbent adheres to all sanitary regulations and standards established by LBCMC and regulatory agencies. Responsible for safe and effective operation of equipment needed to prepare infant formula and maintain sanitation in the preparation room. The Formula Tech completes formula orders and temperature records. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do
  • Prepares and assures delivery of all infant/pediatric formula as ordered.
  • Prepares the formula ordered for each patient by following computer orders and guidelines provided by the registered dietitians; verifies new or questionable formula orders with the dietitian for accuracy and obtains standardized recipes as needed.
  • Uses correct technique to measure powders and liquids.
  • Prepares labels for each bottle/breast milk (patient name, unit/room number, type of feeding—including calories/oz. when indicated, and expiration date).
  • Draws up formula/breast milk additives into syringes, as directed.
  • Properly thaws breast milk under sanitary conditions and at accurate amounts for minimal wastage.
  • Stores prepared formula until delivery to the patient area.
  • Inventories and maintains sufficient infant/pediatric formula room stock. Consults with clinical staff to assure adequate stock of standard and special products. Notifies clinical staff of lack of stock of formulas and other supplies. Checks expiration dates on products. Removes outdated and damaged formula stock from inventory.
  • Follows procedures for formula recalls at the direction of the supervisor.
  • Calculates new formulations of standardized recipes and obtains verification of those formulations with the registered dietitian responsible for the nutritional care of that patient.
  • Ensures that communications are delivered promptly and properly. Communicates with patient care units and clinical dietitians regarding problems with formula orders, formula storage, or administration.
  • Prepares quality assurance reports and production summaries, as assigned.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.

  • 0-1 years Infant/Pediatric formulas

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail-oriented.
  • Mathematical proficiency required. Basic mathematical proficiency to include: adding, subtracting, multiplying, and calculation of percentages.

Supervision Provided by this Position
  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
