Provides and coordinates psychological counseling to treat patients with mental disorders. Coordinates the utilization review and patient access process for behavioral health patients. Conducts educational programs, activities, and clinical supervision of therapeutic programming. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

A Brief Overview
Provides and coordinates health counseling and health care navigation to patients identified to have behavioral health and/or mental health disorders. Conducts educational programs, activities and clinical supervision of therapeutic programming. May provide clinical and/or administrative supervision to clinical staff. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do

  • Interviews referred clients to gather information about their backgrounds, needs, and/or progress.
  • Evaluates patients in crisis situations to determine appropriate course of intervention and facilitating internal and/or external referrals when necessary.
  • Utilizes psychological interventions to treat commonly occurring mental health conditions, coordinating with medical providers as needed to promote overall health and wellness.
  • Promote and provide behavioral health education and standards of care in community and among employees as requested.
  • Provides clinical supervision of trainees or other clinical employees in training as appropriate based on clinic needs and licensure status.
  • Monitor the clinic's behavioral health program, gather data to measure outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement in coordination with the leadership team.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.


Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Social Work,
  • Master's Degree Counseling or
  • Master's Degree Psychology required
  • Ph.D. Psychology preferred
  • Doctorate Psychology preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • 3-5 years Counseling required

Skills and Abilities

  • Able to work with limited supervision.
  • Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result.
  • Ability to solve problems using knowledge, skills, general precedents and practices.
  • Ability to performs duties within scope of general MLH policies, procedures and objectives.
  • Analyzes problems and performs needs assessments.
  • Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result.
  • Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices.
  • Makes recommendations and refer exceptions that affect policies, procedures and practices to management.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
  • Knowledge of current theories and principles of mental health disorders and best-practice counseling techniques.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to create, lead and educate the appropriate audience about mental health issues and the services available.
  • Proficient in the use of PC, Email and MS office.
  • Ability to use data, interpret reports and utilize appropriate EMR.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Social Workers,
  • Licensed Professional Counselor/Mental Health Services Provider Tennessee Board for Professional Counselors and Marital and Family Therapists,
  • Licensed Marital and Family Therapist Tennessee Board for Professional Counselors and Marital and Family Therapists or
  • Licensed Psychologist-Health Service Provider Tennessee Board of Examiners in Psychology required
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker Supervisor Tennessee Board of Social Workers preferred
  • Licensed Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider Supervisor Tennessee Board for Professional Counselors and Marital and Family Therapists preferred

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • Supervises the work of others ensuring quality standards. Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff. Plans organizational structure and job content.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
