A Brief Overview
Responsible for planning, implementing, directing, and controlling activities, operations, and programs in the Pharmacy department and for coordinating of pharmacy activities and operations among all MLH facilities. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do

  • Plans, organizes, implements, and controls Pharmacy operations; monitors operations to keep informed and to ensure that professional and hospital standards are being met.
  • Directs the activities of management and clerical Associates; monitors Associates' performance and clarifies work expectations; motivates Associates; promotes cooperation among individuals and groups. Indirectly supervises professional and service Associates. Plans and conducts activities for staff development. Maintains own professional knowledge through continuing education activities.
  • Manages and administers hospital policies and procedures involving Associates, including staffing activities, Corrective Action and performance appraisal.
  • Prepares annual expense budget and capital requests for the Pharmacy department; monitors budget and other financial indicators during the year. Develops and implements plans to control costs and improve department operations.
  • Participates in coordination of formulary, clinical policy and operating policies and procedures for Pharmacy with other MLH Pharmacies. Serves on MLH Pharmacy Planning and Operations Committee.
  • Develops and maintains quality improvement programs for Pharmacy. Ensures that productivity and QA data is compiled and reports prepared for MLH management and regulatory bodies.
  • Participates in pharmacy education activities; proposes enhancements for academic programs. Assumes active role in pharmacy-related portion of educational programs for medical staff and other medical personnel.
  • Encourages and models good working relationships between medical staff and department Associates.


Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Healthcare Administration
  • Master's Degree Business Administration/Management
  • Doctorate Pharmacy

Experience Qualifications

  • 3-5 years Pharmacy (clinical, hospital, outpatient, or specialty)
  • 3-5 years Pharmacy Leadership

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of pharmacy principles and procedures commensurate with education/experience.
  • Knowledge of Pharmacy administration principles and methods commensurate with education/experience.
  • Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, such as business plans.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of Associates, management, physicians and patients and their families.
  • Ability to lead and motivate individuals and groups of people toward the accomplishment of work and organizational goals.
  • Skill in negotiating with and between individuals and groups of people, including Associates, management and physicians.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Pharmacist Mississippi - Mississippi Board of Pharmacy
  • Pharmacist Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Pharmacy

Supervision Provided by this Position

  • Provides direct and indirect supervision for all Pharmacy Associates.

Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
  • The Associate is required to travel locally occasionally.
