Right here in Memphis, we have one of the largest populations of adult sickle cell disease patients in the country. For these patients, daily life is often interrupted by pain that can last weeks – threatening their family life, career, education and social life.
It is for these patients that we are dedicated to delivering innovative, comprehensive care and developing new treatments through on-site research. We are committed to helping improve the health and quality of life for sickle cell disease patients across the Mid-South.
The Clinical Psychologist provides psychological evaluation and evidence- based, psychological interventions to individuals with sickle cell disease and related hemoglobinopathies including intellectual and personality evaluation. Provides or assists in the supervision of psychological interns if present. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

What you will do
- Provides psychological evaluation to assigned clients, including intellectual and personality evaluations, and cognitive evaluations using both objective and projective diagnostic techniques.
- Provides individual, family and group psychotherapy to assigned clients.
- Provides or assists in supervision, training and evaluation of students/ interns/ residents on rotation in the department.
- Maintains client records to departmental standards.
- Provides education regarding health psychology and coping skills to Associates, the general public and other professionals as needed or requested.
- Performs other job functions as requested or assigned.

- Doctorate Psychology
- Ph.D. Psychology
Work Experience Requirements
- Chronic diseases
- 1-3 years Clinical healthcare (acute or hospital)
- Neuropsychological and psychological assessment
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
- Psychologist Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Examiners of Psychology
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Expertise in treating and evaluating adults with chronic medical conditions.
- Expertise in the use of objective measures of intellectual and personality function and other psychological conditions.
- Ability to utilize appropriate judgment regarding instructional and supervisory issues.
- Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams; must be able to demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to function under stressful situations and meet deadlines.
- Ability to cooperate and relate well with others from all socioeconomic backgrounds.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- Leads and directs psychological examiners and interns.
Physical Demands
- Annual employee TB skin test.
- Non-invasive patient/client contact.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
- Ability to read and write to communicate orally and in writing with other individuals.
- Ability to lift, pushes, pulls and carries 50 lbs. at a time without assistance.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, sit in one place, reach and bend while maintaining balance and coordination.
- Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motion as well as using hands for gripping and squeezing.
- Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive, coordinated motion.
