The ACPE Resident is responsible for providing pastoral care to patients, family members, Associates, Medical Staff, and visitors associated with Methodist Healthcare. The ACPE Resident provides spiritual care by seeking to understand the relationship between faith, illness, and the feelings and thoughts that motivate healthy and meaningful use of each person's beliefs and attitudes. In keeping with this primary purpose, the ACPE Resident is expected to interpret the function of his/her role to other hospital personnel by word, ritual and action and to utilize available community resources for the extension of this ministry. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

A Brief Overview
The ACPE Resident is responsible for providing pastoral care to patients, family members, Associates, Medical Staff, and visitors associated with Methodist Healthcare. What you will do
  • Provides pastoral care and/or counseling to patients, family members and visitors.
  • Provides pastoral care and/or counseling to Associates and Medical Staff.
  • Participates in the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.

Education/Formal Training Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

Work Experience Requirements
  • No prior work experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Advanced pastoral skills and proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles and professional techniques in the field of chaplaincy.
  • Advanced knowledge of pastoral skills, understanding of sacramental ministry and pastoral care methods.
  • Advanced knowledge of the religious principles of major faiths.
  • Ability to work effectively with persons of diverse religious, cultural and racial backgrounds.
  • Ability to listen, understand and minister to the specific spiritual needs of persons in crisis.
  • Ability to respond in emergency situations.
  • Ability to travel to facilities across the MLH system.

Supervision Provided by this Position
  • There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this job.

Physical Demands
  • Possible exposure to body fluids as well as hazardous and poisonous materials.
  • Possible exposure to infectious diseases.
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
