A Brief Overview
The Lead Certified Anesthesia Tech provides day-to-day direction and assistance to the Anesthesia Techs. Provides support services to anesthesiologists and registered nurses in the preparation, care, maintenance, and availability of anesthesia supplies and equipment. Participates in OR room turnover and performs activities as directed to ensure efficiency and safe patient care in the OR environment. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
What you will do
- Acts as a lead-level Anesthesia Tech to provide day-to-day direction and assistance for activities in Anesthesia. Monitors the work of others and acts as a department resource. Collaborates with technical staff in organizing daily workflow and patient care.
- Assists with on-the-job training, education and inservice programs to ensure a high level of technical expertise and compliance with continuing education requirements. Provides input to manager regarding training performance. Documents and addresses Associate performance and competencies; submits documentation to manager timely and accurately.
- Attends and participates in the monthly Infection Control meetings.
- Assists with preparation of capital budget for anesthesia.
- Provides support to anesthesiologists and registered nurses in the preparation, care, maintenance, and availability of anesthesia supplies and equipment. Prepares and assembles anesthesia equipment and supplies for surgical procedures using sterile technique; performs equipment calibration and checks; sets up special equipment and supplies based on patient needs.
- Performs daily care and routine maintenance of anesthesia related equipment. Inspects for damage and repair, and reports equipment for repair and safety hazards. Verifies the performance of airway and monitoring equipment for constant readiness.
- Documents testing of equipment and instruments as required for compliance.
- Inventories, orders, stocks, and ensures the ready availability of anesthesia equipment and supplies.
- Maintains a sterile field for anesthesia services. Ensures adherence to the sterile field by applying principles of aseptic techniques.
- Responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- Technical Degree or Diploma Emerg Medical Tech (EMT)
- Technical Degree or Diploma Nursing - LPN
- Associate's Degree Surgical Technology
Work Experience Requirements
- Supervisory or Management
- 3-5 years Surgical Tech or similar
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
- BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
- Certified Anesthesia Technician - American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated understanding of quality assurance, set-up, and calibration of anesthesia equipment and instrumentation.
- Demonstrates competency in anesthesia used to guide / lead others and carry out more complex assignments.
- Understands the principles and procedures related to infection control and aseptic technique.
- Demonstrated ability to lead others.
Supervision Provided by this Position
- Leads and guides the Anesthesia Techs.
Physical Demands
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
